ELKHART - Dale Gene Houghton, 69, of Elkhart, formerly of Dogwood Road, Mishawaka, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008, in his home after an illness. Dale was born January 29, 1939, in Culver, Indiana, to Flora E. (Hoover) and Harold R. Houghton. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilee (Poorman); four sons, David (Beth) Houghton of Middlebury, Mark (Jenifer) Houghton of Osceola, Steve (Sheila) Houghton of South Bend and Gary Houghton of Granger; and 10 grandchildren. One granddaughter, Heather Nieva (Ruben), was recently married. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He and his wife lived in Mishawaka before moving to Elkhart a few years ago. He was a member of Coalbush United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. He retired after 43 years as a machinist. He was a loyal, loving family man. He liked to hunt and fish. His main focus was working on the family farm in Culver, IN. He was a member of the Boardwalk Community where he lived. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. today in Coalbush United Methodist Church, and one hour before services. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon in Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, Rev. Jim Davidson officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Hahn Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family request memorial contributions in Dale's name be made to Elkhart County Hospice or to the Ronald McDonald House at Riley's Children's Hospital.
