Mrs. MARIA HAUGHTON
Mrs. Maria Sarver Haughton, pioneer resident and widow of Aaroa Haughton, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith Higgenbottom, in Sheffield, Ia., on Friday. Mrs. Haughton was born in Pennsylvania, May 1, 3 841. She came to Pecatonica when she was nine years old and has lived here since. Beside the daughter mentioned, she leaves four other children, Mrs. Altha Hawarth, Pecatonica; Mrs. Ettie Higgenbottom, Rockford; Mrs. Ldia Amundson, Durand, and Louis Haughton of Pecatonica. She is also survived by two sisters Mrs. Rebeca Hamilton, Pipestone, Minn., and Mrs. Mary Smith of Omaha, NE.

Meritt: "Mr. John E. Prindle, who now lives at Russia Corners, has in his possession a small mimeographed booklet entitled Family Record of W. E. Knights, which says: "According to family tradition they (the Houghtons) came into Herkimer Co. from somewhere on the Susquehanna River, which would be not far to the southern border in N. Y. State. The family records show that the grandfather of Matilda Houghton was the first to come into this part of the state. Matilda Houghton's father was called Elijah, Jr....Caroline Matilda Houghton was the wife of Wm. E. Knights, and was born on May 13, 1825." This family tradition is now confirmed, and the "somewhere on the Susquehanna River" we know to have been Worcester."; Guldahl: Knights family information from "Family Record of William Engledow Knights" by Paul A.
