Dee Peters Lutz: My aunt told me when she was in her 80's in the 70's, that her grandmother's name was Lodoiska/Lodowisca, and her mother (my aunt's), my grandmother, was born in Chippewa falls, Wisc. in 1874. I found my grandmother as a small child, 6 yrs. old, with her parents, Lodowisca and Issac Ferguson, on the 1880 census. On it, she said she was born in Vermont, and was in her early
forties. (I can't find my copy of the census). This would make her born about 1840/41/42. She stated both of her parents were born in Vermont and since Lodowiska/Lodowisca is such an unusual name, I just looked in the 1850 Vermont census, and there I found a Lodowiska with parents, Joseph W. Houghton and his wife Lydia. I doubt if there were very many Lodowiska's born in Vermont in the 1800's. I think I have found her in the 1870 Wisc. census, living with Isaac Ferguson and his children. In it she states that
they were married in Sept. She is also listed as Frances L., born in Vermont, both parents born in Vermont. Her grand-daughter, my aunt, told me that she lived to be 94 yrs. old, and was called Loddy/Lody. Lodowiska gave Ida may to a wealthy Minnesota couple when she was a young child. This couple had no children and raised Ida May as their own. In 1902 they were murdered in a house fire. Newspaper said Ida May Ferguson Peters was the daug. of George Ferguson.¹
