ObituaryPerry Herald, Thurs. Jan. 3, 1884Saturday afternoon at about four o'clock, shortly before the mill closed on Saturday, Mrs. P. McArthur, while --cending on the elevator with Miss Monroe, another employe of the mill, was caught between a beam and the elevator and fatally injured. She was looking over the back, it is supposed, and her head caught before she could prevent. Miss Monroe noticed that the elevator stopped suddenly, and looking around saw that Mrs. McArthur was caught. She was extricated immediately, and said, "Oh, Miss Monroe, I am hurt!" She was taken down stairs and only spoke once afterward, it is said, and that was to ask for a drink of water. She died in about half an hour after the accident occurred. An inquest was held Monday afternoon at the Harford house, conducted by Coroner T. B. Cummings of Castile, the verdict being that the deceased died from injuries received as a result of carelessness on her own part. It is one of the rules of the mill that no employes, except those designated for that purpose, shall use the elevator. This terrible occurence should serve as a warning against any similar imprudence in the future. The funeral of the deceased was held yesterday.[Funeral held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 1884, accident occured Dec. 29, 1883]
