Willow Lake, S.D., Feb. 13— Albert Houghton, pioneer resident of this vicinity, died Friday at Dell Rapids at the age of 96. Houghton homesteaded in Clark County in 1882. He married Jennie Everest of Beadle County Dec. 13, 1888. He served as a deputy sheriff and served over 25 years as a school official. Funeral services were held Monday at Brookings. He was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Brookings. His survivors include five children, Dr. Elsie Gorman, Ocean Springs, Miss; Jay, Boerne. Tex.: Mrs. John T. Vincent, Aurora, Ill; Dr. Albert W., Chicago, and Percy G.., Willow Lake.
BiographyThey farmed near Osceola, SD. He later bought and sold grain at different towns in the area, including Willow Lake, SD, in 1921-1922. They moved to Brookings, SD. Mrs. Houghton died before him.3

Craun, of Cedar Rapids, IA, who had come to the Dakota Territory in 1883 with his two brothers, James and John, and homesteaded the southeast quarter of Section 17, one mile north and one mile east of Marcus' homestead and a tree claim on the southwest quarter of section 13 in Rosedale township.. They lived in Rosedale township until 1909, when they moved to Willow Lake, SD and then on to Brookings, SD in 1920. They were the parents of 4 children, 2 of which died shortly after birth. Surviving were Horace and Violet (Mrs. C. E. Lord)3

BiographyThey homesteaded in Sully Co., SD in 1902 and returned to Rosedale township, SD in 1903 to live on his father's homestead. In 1907 they moved to Willow Lake, SD where he worked for Will Haight as a grain buyer in the elevator. In 1910 he accepted the position of manager of the elevator at Herman, MN. In 1912 he returned to Willow Lake, SD and managed an elevator. Ernest married his second wife, Mae Thorne, on June 7, 1927. With the bad times throughout the nation in the 1930's, Ernest lost almost everything. He then moved to Waubay, SD, then to Wilmont, SD and then to Pierpont, SD where they ran a café. In 1946, at the age of 68, he ran an elevator in Renville, MN. From there, he moved to Conway, Arkansas and finally, in 1952, to Riverside, CA, where he passed away in 1967. He is buried in Crestlawn Memorial Park, Arlington CA.3
