MANCHESTER — A private cremation service for Marguerite A. Houghton, 83, of Manchester Meadows Apartments, who died Monday afternoon at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home following a brief illness, was held Tuesday.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial of the ashes in the family lot in the Green Hill Cemetery in Wallingford. Mrs. Houghton was born in Tinmouth on April 27, 1904, daughter of Asa M. and Mabel M. (Valentine) Ackley. She grew up in the Tinmouth- Wallingford area, attending the local schools and graduating from Wallingford High School. She attended Middlebury College and graduated from Prospect Hills School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y. After graduation, she lived in Manhatten, N.Y., where she was employed by the Home Fire Insurance Co. for many yéars. She had lived in the Manchester-Arlington area for the past 15 years. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington. Her husband, Albert Austin Houghton, predeceased her. Survivors include a niece, Lucille Fi8ke of Cuttingsville; five nephews, Lee B. Houghton, Ola Wetherby of Wallingford, Jonathan P. Houghton of Seattle, Wash., David Wetherby of Dover, N.H., and Ralph H. Wetherby of Sebago Lake, Maine; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
