Children+Most of James Macqueen and Mary Nairn's children are linked to their findagrave memorials (numbers above). Other children whose burials I don't have yet are:

Elizabeth "Eliza" Thompson Macqueen b. 4 Aug 1814 in Clackmannan, d 1884 or 1885 in England; she is the only one of the children who reached adulthood who stayed in Great Britain. She married John Brown Hill in 1838 in Clonmel; they moved to the London area.

Thomas "Tom" Nairn Macqueen b. before 24 Feb 1816 in Clackmannan, d April 1879 in Galesburg, Illinois; wife Eliza or Jane.

Mary Macqueen b. before 5 Jan 1820 and d. before 1825, Scotland

John "Jack" Macqueen b. 23 Nov 1832 in Clonmel, Ireland; d. 28 June 1908 in New York or Vermont; wife Mary "Molly" Harris, married 1854 in Circleville, Ohio.

BiographyThe 1850 Census lists only one McQueen family in Circleville, OH. This was the birth place of Susan Weaver Troup (second wife of Joseph Troup), whose mother was Margaret McQueen. Helen McQueen was Joseph Troup's third wife. I am guessing that the McQueen family found in this census with James as head of house were brothers and sisters, and that the Helen found there was Margaret's sister and listed as age 30. Both parents born in Scotland per 1880 census of Helen.

This James Macqueen (1789-1846) managed a distillery--that's why he moved from Scotland to Ireland sometime between 1816 and 1826. The owners were Murray and Stein of Scotland. There were McQueens (also spelled McQuin) in Alloa who were maltsters and brewers in Drysdale Street, Alloa, in 1841; I'm imagining they were relatives but haven't looked further. The family's immigration to Ireland was probably 1825 or 1826; the older children of James Macqueen and Mary Nairn were born in Scotland and the rest in Ireland.
James is buried in Marlfield (see findagrave # 188914646). He has a large stone very close to the church door. I've added a photo to his findagrave page. He supposedly died of "inflammation of the bowels or bilious colic"; daughters Mary and Martha are listed on the same marker.
