He died on 10 June 1871 at age 18 Died in infancy per Janet Hume, but Mary Louise Young shows that the 1861 census listed him as being 9 years old. She lists this date of death.6,2,4 Alternatively, he died in 1870 according to the family gravemarker, but he was enumerated in the 1871 census, so this date can be discounted.5 Robert Moffat was buried at Lakeview Cemetery (aka Newtonville Cemetery), Newtonville, Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario, Canada.5
Robt Moffat appeared on the 1871 Canadian Census of Clarke Twp., Durham County, Upper Canada in the household of his parents, Walter Moffat and Agnes Moffat, listed as a farmer.8

He was born on 30 June 1854 at Newcastle, Canada West, United Province of Canada, family bible.4,5,10,8,11,7 Alternatively, he was born on 15 June 1855 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, in the 1901 census, the date could be June 18. Handwriting is open to interpretation. Year of birth is overwritten, so 1855 is based upon age at time of enumeration = 46. In the 1911 census the birthdate is given as Jun 1855.12,13,11 or circa 1859 at Clarke Twp., Durham County, Canada West, United Province of Canada, according to his marriage registration.6 Thomas married Joanna C. Gray on 15 December 1880 at Newcastle, Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario, Canada, according to Ontario Marriage Registration 007935. Of special importance was that fact that two of his brothers Mr. Roger Moffat and Mr. Alfred Moffat, were here from Frobisher, Sask., also a nephew, Rev. Alex. Moffat, recently ordained United Church minister, of Frobisher, Sask. Other present were: Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Rickard, Mrs. David Moffat and Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon, Robert and Will Moffat and families, Orono; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Allin and daughters, Rev. and Mrs. R.E. Morton and Laurence, Mrs. Norman Pingle and Mrs. Marjerrison, and Mrs. John Lord, Bowmanville; Mrs. Robt. Gray and Mrs. Dave Gray, Newcastle, and Mr. and Mrs. George Walkey, Newtonville. With Rev. R. E. Morton as chairman short speeches were delivered congratulating Mr. Moffat. Mr. Moffat's granddaughters, Miss Helen Lycett, teacher on Oshawa Public School staff, and Miss Marjorie Lycett, Newcastle, who make their home with him, made ideal hostesses. Refreshments, which all helped to contribute, were served and a jolly social time spent.32

The following information is from my personal research, January 2018:
In "The Germans from Volhynia and Russian Poland" the University of Alberta provides the following quote:
"Virtually all German Baptist communities that had been established in the 1850s in Poland emigrated to Volhynia (by 1914 Volhynia would have between 40,000 and 50,000 Baptists, served by about a dozen churches.)"
This may help to explain the confusing references to Russia, Poland and Ukraine in various sources for the Schmuland family.10
