He was born circa 1789 at Ashby, Lincolnshire, England.6 James married Mary Dixon before 1828.5,7
James Vamplew appeared on the 1861 British Census of England, at Skidbrook parish, Lincolnshire, enumerated effective 07 Apr 1861, described as a widower and a cottager of 15 acres. His son, John was listed as living with him. John's wife Mary and children, Mary, James, Betsy, Jane and Susan were also in the household.6
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
Found this posted on the web -- All vamplews decend from Isaac Vampllie who married Jean Duvertier on 8 Feb 1665 at Sandtoft French Protestant Church, their son Pierre Vamplue was christened on 30 Dec 1666. Hope this is of interest. Keep in touch. Mike Hodgson mjhodgson@lancfile.demon.co.uk

Rick Moffat - Assuming James and Mary Vamplew were the parents of "our' William Vamplew, and that the James Vamplew, widower in the 1861 census for Skidbrook is the same person, then William had a brother John as well.8

The following biographical information appeared at a genealogy report courtesy of Theresa Fruhwirth, 16 September 2008:
William played in the Thornbury band and asked Minnie, who was the church organist, to play and that is how they met. The family moved to Barrie in 1912 until 1923. They first lived on Capboard St. and then a friend who built houses talked them into buying 191 Bayfield St. It had a 300 foot garden where each child had a part for their own plantings. They kept prize chickens (large white wine-dot chickens) for which they won ribbons and cups at the county fair and did well selling eggs from them. On New Year's Eve, they would was the chickens and dry them with the vacuum cleaner and fed them corn to make their legs yellow for the New Year's Day fair. They had a large vegetable garden. Then the family moved to Galt for five years and then to Guelph in 1928. William was then transferred to London for five years and then on to Toronto at Old Orchard Grove at Yonge St. and Avenue Rd. area and then to Agincourt. He worked for an insurance company.5

On New Year's Eve, they would was the chickens and dry them with the vacuum cleaner and fed them corn to make their legs yellow for the New Year's Day fair. They had a large vegetable garden. Then the family moved to Galt for five years and then to Guelph in 1928. John Langdale1

M, #8400, b. circa 2 July 1741
Father*Thomas Langdale1 b. c Jan 1712/13
Relationship4th great-grandfather of Richard Graeme Moffat
Last Edited31 Jul 2023
He was born circa 2 July 1741 at Yorkshire, England.2,1,3 John Langdale was christened on 2 July 1741 at Leake, Yorkshire (North Riding), England.1,3 John married Mary Scurr on 20 September 1766 at Northallerton, Yorkshire (North Riding), England.4
The following analysis is from my personal research and reflects my attempts to consolidate information from different sources.
Who was John Langdale's wife?
For a long time, I had assumed it was Mary Charlesworth. This marriage occurred on 29 Jun 1767, in Birstall in West Yorkshire, which is over 60 miles from Leake. This is several months after John Langdale's son, Thomas was born. Both location and date after the birth of Thomas seem to invalidate my assumption.
Recently, Liz Harmer drew my attention to a marriage record for John Langdale and Mary Scurr. He was from Leake and she was from Northallerton, about 6 miles away. They wed on 20 Sep 1766, about 7 months before the birth of Thomas Langdale
Owing to the proximity of Northallerton to Leake, and the marriage date prior to Thomas' birth, I believe that this is the correct marriage record for John Langdale of Leake.
However, to avoid misleading other researchers, I am not recording Mary Scurr as the mother of this John Langdale's children until I can perhaps find more definitive supporting evidence.5,4
