John McGhie and Elizabeth McGhie appeared on the 1851 British Census of Scotland, at Lochwood Smithy, Johnstone Parish, Dumfriesshire, enumerated 31 March 1851, enumerated as a blacksmith. Their children Robert, Margrat, Jane, James, Ann, Jannet and Mary were listed as living with them.2

John Mcghie and Elizabeth Moffat appeared on the 1861 British Census of Scotland, at Lochwood, Johnstone Parish, Dumfriesshire, enumerated 7 April 1861, enumerated as a blacksmith and "Groier". Their children Divina and Agness were listed as living with them. In addition, their grandchildren Mary Mcghie and John Mcghie were also listed.3

     She also went by the name of Susan Patchett in the 1871 census.8 Susanna Benton was a survivor of her husband George who died in 1851.14,15
     In White's 1856 Lincoln Directory Mrs. Patchett is listed as a farmer in North Somercotes. This was probably Susanna since records indicate her husband George died in 1851. It also references Samuel Benton, listed as a farmer of North Somercotes. A relative of Rowland's mother?16,17
