Apparently Zenas Bigelow's first wife [Catherine?] died, and I think he ended up in Shelby or New Era, Michigan, where I am from. I think he married a second time to my great-great grandmother who is Mary Heald Foster Bigelow. I have gone into the land patents and knew that Zenas was at one time in the Janesville, Wisconsin, area and from there I think he had a land patent in Grant Township in Oceana County, Michigan. I have him and Mary living together in section 6 of the township and my great grandfather and another gentleman (perhaps a hired man) all in the same household under the Bigelow name. When great grandfather is over 21 or so, his mother Mary deeds over her land that she purchased when she came from Iowa in 1867 or 1868. From there I have never found another trace of Zenas or Mary Bigelow. No one in my family never knew much about her, but word has it she may have been Indian. Oh well, I was told never to bring it up to a great aunt who had discovered this dark family secret. So I would like to know what happened to Zenas. I think the clue would lead to where Mary moved and perhaps is buried.

Paul,
If my Mary Bigelow married your Zenas Bigelow, she married Foster before she married Zenas............................. as my great grandfather's birthday is in 1856...... I have seen a marriage of the two somewhere in my ramblings, and I know she and he ended up in Michigan and are in the census there.
Do you have any idea yet as to what or where old Zenas went? I find no clue as to where they went once they deeded her acreage over to her son,
Frank Foster.
An interesting note is that I still own and farm her acreage, and I can remember an old foundation where I am positive Zenas had his land.
What happened to his wife, Catherine?

Good talk at you again, Paul.
My great grandfather my Franklin (Frank) Adelbert Foster. Born in Bradford, IA.
Zenas was quite a traveler. I think he was either from New York or New Hampshire, by looking at a census record last night. Then he was in the
Rock County, Wisconsin, area (he has a land patent there) then on to Iowa where he married again -- but not to Mary Heald. At least the way
I read it, I think she passed, he joined the army (records exist), then I think he must have married Mary Heald. They went to Michigan and had
adjoining parcels. Last time we hear from them was to have her deed Frank the 120 acres of which we still own. I have no idea where they went.... that is
why I keep asking about where Zenas is buried. I do know that my great grandfather or grandfather????? did spend time in Washington State as a lumberjack. Maybe a connection there.
Family sure was mum about old Mary...... still think there was a proverbial in the wood pile somewhere. We will keep looking, If you run across
anything give me a hollar , will be in touch.
Oh, by the way, Frank died in Erie, PA and was brought home and buried with his first wife. He married his sister-in- law when both lost their
spouses.
Judie.
