John Hadley John Hadley came here [Fredericksburg, Chickasaw County, Iowa] in 1854 from Cook county, Illinois. He married Maria Potter, daughter of Alanson and Sulphina (Evarts) Potter. He located on Section 24, the west half of the northeast quarter of Township 94, Range 12 -- eighty acres. This land he sold to Alanson Potter, his father-in-law, and moved to Auburn, Fayette county [Iowa], where he died July 24, 1873. No children. His widow [Maria Potter Hadley] married again [to Daniel McDuffee in 1877], separated from her husband [actually, divorced in 1885] and died in this town [Fredericksburg] December 9, 1897. She was buried in the West cemetery.
