George F. Renslow, Sr., was a barber.2,3 He appeared on the census of 1900 in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota,

Renzlow, George; porter; white; male; born Nov 1841 in Canada (Fr); age 58; married 35 years; father born in France; mother born in Ireland; immigrated 1849; 50 years in U.S.; naturalized; barber; months not employed, 4; can read; can write; can speak English.

Larry Renslow: I am confident that "George Renzlow" is George F. Renslow, son of Lucius and Mary Ann (Boyle) Renslow. In 1895, a probate court put George F. Renslow under the care of his brother-in-law because of being an alcoholic and unable to care for himself. In 1900, I don't have any other indication of where George F. Renslow is, but apparently he had conned saloon proprietor, George Russell, into supporting him (four months out of work!). Note that this George Renzlow is a barber. The apparent discrepancies may be explained by one of the other members of the household giving the information to the enumerator and either not knowing the facts or having been misled by George himself. My experience with alcoholics is, you can't get a straight story from one of them, so it's entirely believable to me that George may have embellished his personal history from time to time.

Notes.
1. The numbers at the ends of William's and Margaret's lines were in the right margin.
2. The county and city subdivisions were recorded in an unusual way. The county was recorded as Ramsey 9th Precinct. The subdistrict of the county was recorded as 5th Ward. The Ward space was left blank.
3. I'm identifying William as a son of George F. and Melissa (Farrow) Renslow, based on information from Charlotte's family group sheets.3,4 He was a laborer, coal yard employee in 1920. Subject: Willie Renslow of Olmsted County

From: Barbara Zanzig

On April 17, I reported a birth of Willie Renslow in Olmsted County, MN, on April 29, 1875. I have finally received the birth records and here are the details. This is the son, William E., of George Renslow and Melissa Farrow. Her name is erroneously reported as Malifoa in Willie's birth record. It is volume A, p. 93, no. 109, Apr 29 1875, Willie, male, white, born Rochester city, of George and Malifoa Renslow, they born Mass-Mass. Father's occupation barber. No record date given.

I believe I saw Arthur, whose date conflicts with this, but my data was not in condition to examine him. I'll be cleaning up and looking again within the next week or two.

George F. Renslow, Jr., appeared on the census of 1920 in Boone, Boone County, Iowa,

Enumeration date 6 January 1920. Iowa. Boone County. Boone City. Ward 4. 810 1/2 Keeler St.

Renshallo Geo; roomer; male; white; age 43; single; can read; can write; born in Iowa; father born in Germany, mother tongue [unreadable]; mother born in Germany, mother tongue [unreadable]; speaks English; barber, employed in barber shop.

Notes:
      1. Geo is one of ten roomers in home of Frank Mosher.
      2. Very light copy. Easiest reading was in name column.
      3. The name spelling and the parent's birthplace weigh against Geo being a Renslow, but the "facts" may have been given to the enumerator by another roomer or someone else unaquainted with Geo.
      4. Geo is a barber. I have a George in my database from the family of barbers in Minnesota who would be roughly the same age as this Geo. ("Geo" is of course a common abbreviation for George.) I don't know anything about George after his birth in 1872. So, I'm putting this record in my candidate file with a possible ID of George F. Renslow, (1872-?) pending further evidence.3
