Obituary

ASHTABULA - Virginia Houghton, 83, of West 52nd Street died Friday, October 12, 2012 at the Hospice Unit of Ashtabula County Medical Center. She was born July 30, 1929 in Jamestown, the daughter of Jake and Edith (Ray) Messinger and had been an Ashtabula resident for the past 65 years.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Houghton worked a sales associate for Goodwill Industries. She has also been a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Geneva.
She loved country and religious music, crocheting, and angels. She shared her talents and gifted many blankets, dolls, and Humpty-Dumpty pillows to family and friends. Her survivors include one son, Frank D. (Marion) Houghton of Perry; four daughters, Linda Marie Runnion and Martha (Roger) Latak, both of Ashtabula, Connie Burdette of Pierpont, and Donna Lee (Richard) Secrest of LaSage, WV; twenty grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eileen Blankenship of Conneaut; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Houghton on January 18, 1999; one grandson, Ezra Tackett; brothers, William, John, Calvin, Sam, and Claire; sisters, Edith, Edna, and Mae; her son-in-law, Okey Runnion; her mother and step-father, Edith and Roy Yoder; and her father.
