Obituary

William "Bill" Joseph Houghton, Jr., age 83, formerly of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2020 in Shaker Heights, Ohio surrounded by his family. Bill was born on May 7, 1937 to William and Marian (Siddons) Houghton in Omaha, Nebraska.

Throughout his career, Bill worked as an accountant for several businesses in Des Moines. However he was a family man first and foremost, active in his children's activities as they were growing up. He was a leader in the Des Moines Amateur Hockey Association and the Des Moines Figure Skating Club. Bill was also an avid cook, and his family and friends all benefited from this. His candy (especially caramel, fudge, and turtles) was eagerly anticipated and enjoyed. He had recently moved to Shaker Heights to be closer to family.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Karen; daughter Jennifer Houghton of Shaker Heights, Ohio; son Bill (Debbie) Houghton of Ann Arbor, Michigan; daughter Kathryn (Scott) Miller of Dalton, Massachusetts; and four grandchildren Joey, Tina, Kyle, and John.

Bill was cremated and his ashes interred in a hand-painted porcelain urn. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Obituary

Wanda Mae Houghton, 77, longtime Brush area resident, died at her home Monday afternoon. Mrs. Houghton was born Dec. 30,1932, in Leoti, Kan., to Leslie and Helen Hahn. She moved to the Brush area in 1961. Being active in the community, she enjoyed helping people, and volunteering for the Red Cross and the Pregnancy Resource Center. Mrs. Houghton also enjoyed being involved in her church, taking care of animals, writing poetry, quilting, crocheting and reading.
She was a member of the New Hope Community Church. Mrs. Houghton is survived by her daughters. Helen McCann and Deena Burns, both of Akron, Patti Northup of Greeley, Bonnie Shepherd of Stockbridge, Ga., and Charlotte Stieb of Fort Morgan; one son, Wesley Houghton of Brush; one sister, Ruth Johnson of Castle Rock; four brothers, James Hahn and Doug Hahn, boti of Denver, Phillip Hahn of Mexico, and Stanley Hahn of Merced, Calif; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Walter Houghton; one sister, Arlene Thompson; two brothers, Robert and Leonard Hahn; and her parents.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a m. at the New Hope Community Church In Brush. Interment will be held at a later date in the Brush Memorial Cemetery.
