William F. "Bill" Higdon

DELAVAN - William F. "Bill" Higdon, 82, of Delavan, passed away at 8:55 AM Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at his home.

He was born August 3, 1929 in Delavan to Elick M. and Ida Mae Pullum Higdon. He married Doris Newby Houghton on March 11, 1978, and she survives.

Also surviving are two step children, Ronald (Cheryl) Houghton of Saucier, MS and Susan (Jay) Whapham of Waverly, VA; two granddaughters and two grandsons; one sister, Elizabeth Gritton of Paxton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.

Bill worked as a mechanic in the Delavan San Jose area and retired from Caterpillar Inc. after working for many years.

He and his wife owned and operated the New Salem Country Opry for over 28 years.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War.

His funeral will be at 10:30 AM Monday, May 7, 2012 at Davis Mortuary in Delavan. Pastor Daniel Tuhy will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Sunday and one hour before the service, both at the mortuary. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral.
