Mary A. Houghton, 73, of Mulberry died at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center at Pittsburg, Kansas.

Mrs. Houghton was born April 3, 1935 at Mulberry the daughter of Karl W. and Myrtle A. Walker Hoop. Mary was a homemaker and also worked Home Health Care. Mary was raised in Mulberry and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1953. She married Donald R. Houghton on June 9, 1953 at the Mulberry Presbyterian Church. Mr. Houghton survives at the home. Additional survivors include five daughters, Maricia Stafford and her husband Dave of Mulberry, Kimberly Waggener and her husband Jerry of Weir, Dana Shaffer and her husband Bill of Mulberry, Pamela Houghton of Arma, and Kristin Netherton and her husband Jim of Richards, Missouri, one sister, Bonnie Compton of Pittsburg, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Buford Reeder, three sisters, Lorene Wilson, Nadine Egender, and Deloris Goodloe, three brothers, Carl, Norman, and Bob Hoop, and a grandson, Donnie Stafford.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Bedene Funeral Home at Arma with the Rev. Schuyler McCracken officiating. Burial will be at the Rosebank Cemetery at Mulberry. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Bedene Chapel where friends may call after 11 a.m. Friday. The family will be at the home of Bill Shaffer, 410 E. Croweburg Road at Mulberry. The family suggests memorials to the Mulberry Senior Citizens Building Fund. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E. Washington, Box 621, Arma, Kansas 66712.¹

Peter Houghton, 79, of LaGrange died Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. Houghton was born January 1, 1931 in Ionia, MI, son of the late Edwin Houghton and Katherine Sullivan Houghton. He moved to LaGrange after retirement to enjoy the outdoors and fish. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Houghton was a graduate of Michigan State University, served as a Lieutenant in the Signal Corps, and was a retired Marketing Manager. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gaynelle Gilbert Houghton.

Survivors include his children, Mark (Terri) Houghton of LaGrange, and Brynn Ann Houghton of Olympia, WA; his companion, Janet Welch of LaGrange; and a grandson, Jason Alexander of LaGrange.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Adult Education Fund in memory of Mr. Edwin Peter Houghton.
