She was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Germany and had spent winters in Venice from Silver Spring, Md., since the late 1970s.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen S. Dutton of Frederick, Md., Barbara S. Cheeka of Silver Spring and Lois S. Noonan of Kent Island, Md; two brothers, Hans and Klaus Wollenweber, both of Germany; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The memorial service and burial will be in Silver Spring, where Collins Funeral Home is in charge.1

Wilma F. (Brown) Houghton, 81, of Nashua, formerly of Long Lake, N.Y., died Saturday morning, March 10, 2001, at Hanover Hill Nursing Home in Manchester.

Mrs. Houghton was born July 26, 1919, in Clay Center, Kan., daughter of the late Edward and Pearl (Owen) Brown.

She was the widow of William James Houghton Sr., who died June 10, 1995.

Mrs. Houghton was a homemaker for most of her life, although for short periods of time she worked at Duckwalls Department Store in Clay Center and Jennings Store and Grand Union Supermarket in Long Lake.

She served as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts and den mother for the Boy Scouts. She was a member of a choral group in Long Lake and also a member of the Home Bureau there. As part of that group, Mrs. Houghton enjoyed knitting crocheting, quilting and other crafts, as well as gardening. She was also an accomplished artist in watercolors, acrylic and oils and had her work displayed at Adirondack Museum of Art.

Mrs. Houghton attended schools in Clay Center, where she graduated from high school, and also completed a secretarial program at a business school.

She was a longtime member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Long Lake, where she was a church board member and Sunday school teacher.

Mrs. Houghton was predeceased by a brother, Woodrow Brown; and a granddaughter, Rhonda Carrow.

Survivors include a son and daughter in law, William James Jr. and Linda Houghton of Auburn, N.Y; three daughters and a son-in-law, Phyllis Burger of Naples, Fla., Barbara and David Fournier of Nashua and Janet Houghton of Merrimack; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Marie and Bill Meihoefer of Mastic Beach, Long Island, N.Y., Timothy J. Hayes of Saratoga, N.Y., Michael J. and Jean Ursitti of Manchester, Colette and John Loud of Connecticut, and Luke and Shauna Houghton, Leslie Houghton and Lee Houghton, all of Auburn; six great-grandchildren, Krista Meihoefer, Franklin D. Ursitti, Harrison M. Ursitti, Kirstyn Loud, Kiana Carrow and Alyssa Houghton; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Bernard and Donna Brown and Virgil and Madeline Brown, all of Clay Center, and Rachel Brown of Wakefield, Kan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services and interment will take place in Long Lake.1

Lois H. McAveigh, 76, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at Chenango Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

Born December 19, 1937, in Tupper Lake, NY, Lois was the daughter of Hamor and Harriet (Brown) Houghton. Lois was the seventh of nine children and the last survivor of her siblings. She graduated from Long Lake High School with the Class of 1955. After high school, she worked for a time as a telephone operator for C & U Telephone Co., currently Frontier Communications. Lois then worked in the accounts payable department of Chenango Memorial Hospital for 20 years, and finally as a salesperson for Skillin’s Jewelers on North Broad Street.

On September 2, 1956, in Long Lake, NY, Lois married Lanny McAveigh, who survives. She is also survived by her children Martin H. McAveigh and Karen K. Page, and her husband, Donald, all of Norwich; grandchildren Kirsten Page, of Norwich, Sarah Russell, and her husband, Robert, of Virginia, and Justin Page, and his wife, Monet, also of Virginia; and four great-grandchildren.

Lois was a very active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church, and regularly attended the United Methodist Women’s luncheons. She loved to read, enjoyed bowling and traveling, and spoke fondly of her travels to Colorado, Canada and Maine. Lois took pleasure in spending time with friends, and as a devoted wife mother and aunt, especially loved the many gatherings of her family.

A memorial service for Lois will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the Broad Street United Methodist Church where Rev. Nancy Hale, pastor, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Broad Street United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

ObituaryLanny J. McAveigh, 83, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 8, 2019, at the Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.

Born October, 25, 1935, in Syracuse, NY, Lanny was the son of James and Emona (Thornton) McAveigh.

He was a graduate of Newcomb High School, in Newcomb, NY, where he was a star basketball player.

Soon after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1955 - 1957 until his honorable discharge. After his naval service, Lanny completed a degree in radiology, then worked as a radiologist for Chenango Memorial Hospital until a medical condition prevented him from doing so.

On September 2, 1956, in Long Lake, NY, Lanny married Lois (Houghton) McAveigh, who died on October 4, 2014.

He is survived by:
his children Martin H. McAveigh and Karen K. Page each of Norwich;
son-in-law, Donald Page of Norwich;
grandchildren Kirsten Page, and her husband, Michael Grover, of Sherburne, Sarah Russell, and her husband, Robert, of Virginia, Justin Page, and his wife, Monet, also of Virginia;
and six great-grandchildren, Ava, Logan, Alana, Aleeyah, Alyssa, and Hadlee.

Lanny was an avid golfer, and a devoted fan of the NY Mets and Syracuse Orange. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting with his son. He and Lois were very fond of traveling to Colorado, Canada and Maine, and trips to Myrtle Beach, SC to golf. Lanny made sure to travel each August to his hometown celebration, called “Newcomb Days.” After his wife passed, Lanny very much enjoyed having breakfast with his local buddies. He was also an active member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church. He will be fondly remembered for his witty character, and was always ready for a joke. Lanny so loved his family, and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Lanny loved the gatherings of his family, and he was a friend to many. His kind and friendly manner had a positive impact on so many and will be missed.

Friends are invited to call at the Broad Street United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019. A memorial service for Lanny will immediately follow at the church at 12:00 p.m., where Rev. Rachel Morse, pastor, will officiate.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Martha A. Harvey 73, of Redfield, passed away on June 23, 2012 at her daughter's home, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 31, 1939 in Long Lake N.Y a daughter of Hamor and Harriet Brown Houghton. Maratha was a graduate of Long Lake High school class of 1956. On January 28, 1961 Martha was united in marriage to Louis R. Harvey in Redfield N.Y. Louis passed away on December 15, 1987.Martha and Louis were janitors for the Redfield Union School for a few years. Then Maratha was the Post Master at the Redfield post office for 30 plus years retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church and was a very active person in many organizations and her church. Redfield Rebekah Lodge, Osceola Public Library and a Ladies Craft group. Martha enjoyed taking bus trips with her friends but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving Martha are a daughter; Michele Myslivecek, Redfield, two sons and daughter in-laws; Gregg and Amy Harvey, West Chazy NY, Kevin and Jody Harvey , Berlin NJ; two step daughters, Sally and Roy Montieth, Redfield NY; Deborah and Edward Montieth Redfield NY; a sister Lois and Lanny McAveigh, Norwich; twelve grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Martha was predeceased by a son Matthew John Harvey and siblings William, Hamor Jr., John, Arthur, Bertha, Mary (Belle) and Lydia.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 28, 2012 at 1: P.M. at LaRobardiere Funeral Home 109 Main Street Camden. Calling hours are Thursday 11:A.M. to 1: PM prior to the service.
