John C. Thomas Jr. of New York and Locust Valley, L.I., has announced the engagement of his daughter Suzanne Elizabeth Thomas to Francis Joseph Houghton 3d, a son of Margot Dooling Houghton and Mr. Houghton Jr., both of New York. A September wedding is planned.

Miss Thomas, a graduate of the Portledge School and the Fashion Institute of Technology, is also a daughter of the late Eula M. Thomas. She is a freelance events coordinator. Her father is the chairman of A/S/M Communications of New York, the publisher of Adweek and other trade publications. The future bride is a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John C. Thomas and the late Mr. and Mrs. Samuel P. Metzger Jr. Mr. Houghton, who is known as Chip, graduated from the Brooks School and Boston University. He is a film producer at R/Greenberg Associates in New York. His mother is the director of external affairs for the Alcoholism Council of Greater New York, and his father is a senior vice president of Lynch & Mayer, a New York investment-management firm. The future bridegroom is a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. James F. Dooling and the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis J. Houghton.¹

Mrs. McCarty was until recently the director of public relations at Tiffany & Company. She graduated from New York University. She is the daughter of Margot D. Houghton and Francis J. Houghton Jr., both of New York. The bride's parents work at investment management companies in New York, he as a senior vice president at Lynch & Mayer and she as the director of client relations at Ashland Management.

Mr. McCarty attended the University of Michigan. He is a son of the late Barbara Casey McCarty and Harold J. McCarty Jr., who was the president of H. J. McCarty & Son, hardware manufacturers' representatives in New York.¹

Still married and my very athletic daughters are now 15 and 13. Recently led negotiations for the sale of a digital pathology software company and will carry on with the buyer/owner in a consulting capacity for the next year or so.
