Elmer Houghton Akin, 77 year old Yukon resident, died Saturday. Mr. Akin was born 4 days before statehood, November 3, 1907 in Oklahoma City. The son of Herbert J. Akin and Bertha Pearl Houghton Akin who have predeceased him. He graduated from Classen High School in 1927 and obtained a law degree from the Cumberland University Law School, in Lebanon Tennessee. He was in the insurance adjusting business representing various insurance companies. Mr. Akin was an active member and elder of the University Place Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; his daughter Dr. Gloria Rogers Hoggard and two granddaughters Nancy Rogers Robins and Holly Rogers; also a brother, Don H. Akin and nephew Donald H. Akin Jr. Elmer was interested in various charitable organizations and aided substationally to their needs. Funeral services Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the University Place Christian Church with burial at Piedmont, Oklahoma. Directed by Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper.

Donald Herbert Akin, 91, of Oklahoma City, passed away February 2, 2002. Mr. Akin was born in Oklahoma City on April 6, 1910 to Mr. H.J. Akin and Bertha Houghton Akin and resided in Oklahoma for his entire life.

Mr. Akin was a World II Glider pilot and flew into Normandy, France on D-Day where he was wounded by German machine gun fire. Mr. Akin was an attorney for the Veterans Administration for 30 years and continued to help veterans for the rest of his life. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and had been a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association for over 60 years. He was also a member of the World War II Glider Pilots Association and Central Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Akin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Millicent B. Akin; his only son, Donald H. Akin, Jr. and his niece, Gloria Hoggard. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2002 at the Hahn-Cook/Street and Draper Chapel.

Napa, CA, USA, Connie Houghton SACRAMENTO Connie Houghton, 80, died Thursday at Methodist Hospital Hospital in Sacramento. She was born in Oklahoma Sept. 10, 1904, and had resided in Napa for many years. She was employed at Rough Rider and Cameron Shirt Factory here and had moved to Sacramento a few years go to be near her son and daughter. She was a member of the Riverside Wesleyan Church in Sacramento. She is survived by two daughters, Myrna Barker of Chico and Myra Lander of Sacramento; three sons, L.D. of Sacramento, C.R. of Bozeman, Mont, and P.J. of Napa; one sister, Marguerite Rideout of Yucca Valley; and 15 grandchildren. Friends may call at Claffey and Rota Funeral Home, 1975 Main St., Tuesday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Riverside Wesleyan Church in Sacramento at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Tulocay Cemetery.

Norman Warner Houghton Norman Warner Houghton was born on June 21, 1929 in Hutchinson, Kansas and raised in various cities in Oklahoma. He joined our heavenly father after passing away peacefully on December 13, 2011. Norman attended Tonkawa High School then received his B.S. in Chemistry from Panhandle A & M College in Oklahoma where he also was first chair clarinet in the college band. He received his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Oklahoma. Following college, Norman took a job as a chemist at Amoco and moved to Galveston, TX. It was there that he met the love of his life, Marie Grimm. They married and settled in Austin where Norman worked for Jefferson (later Texaco) Chemical Company for 30 years. Active in Boy Scouts, Norman achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man and later was a Scoutmaster for his boys' troop. Norman will be remembered for his love of the bible and his passion for hunting. Norman leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Marie Houghton, as well as his five children and their families: David Houghton, Randy Houghton and wife Sharon with children Samuel, Daniel, and Christin, Barbara Beggs and husband Jim with daughters Rachel and Jenna Marie, Steve Houghton, and Janet Starnes with daughters Christine and Jessica. Norman was pre-deceased by his parents, Harry and Norma Houghton, as well as his brother Robert Houghton. Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, 3125 N. Lamar, on Friday, December 16 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Hyde Park Baptist Church on Speedway at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 17 with a reception following.
