WORCESTER -- Elbert L. ``Al'' Houghton, 77, of 36 Claridge Road, a World War II veteran and a retired machine operator, died Sunday, June 9, at home after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 32 years, Virginia M. (Gallo) Houghton; four sons, Mike A. Houghton of Oakham, Scott G. Houghton of Dudley, Steven P. Houghton of the North Grosvernordale section of Thompson, and Kevin J. Houghton of Worcester; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Snediker of Grafton; a brother, Robert Houghton of Patterson, Calif; two sisters, Charlotte Raudio of California and Bertie Barto of Washington; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. His adoptive mother, Mary Clark, a brother, Charles Houghton Jr., and a sister, Helen ``Tooty'' Farrell, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Charles and Mildred (Williams) Houghton, and was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.
Mr. Houghton was a machine operator for 37 years at Norton Co., retiring in 1990. He was a member of Greendale Peoples Church, Worcester Surfcasting Club, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Harold N. Keith American Legion Post 204 in West Boylston and the Navy Reserves. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Morning Star Lodge of Masons. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
The memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, in Greendale Peoples Church, 25 Francis St. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114; or to another charity. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St. (www.Royfuneral.com), is directing arrangements.¹

Her husband of 32 years, Elbert “Al” Houghton died in 2002. She is survived by four sons, Michael A. Houghton of Oakham, Scott G. Houghton of Dudley, Steven P. Houghton of Thompson, CT and Kevin J. Houghton of Worcester; a daughter, Kimberly Ann Snediker of Grafton; two brothers, Angelo Gallo of Worcester and James Gallo of Oxford; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of Marco Island, FL; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Mrs. Houghton was born in Worcester, daughter of James and Mary (Perri) Gallo and is predeceased by a daughter, Cheryl Ann and a sister, Josephine DiSilvestri.

She is a graduate of Commerce High School and enjoyed spending much of her time with her grandchildren.

A committal service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, at 11AM in Notre Dame Mausoleum, with entombment to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or Radius Healthcare Center Activity Fund, 119 Providence St., Worcester, MA 01604. Ruth A. Houghton of Bellevue died of cancer June 23, 2002, at The Springs at Pacific Regent in Bellevue. She was 78.

Mrs. Houghton was born July 23, 1923, in Meadville, Pa. She lived with her husband in Massachusetts, Virginia and Texas during World War II before they moved to the Northwest and lived in the San Juan Islands and Bellevue. They also made their home for short periods in Florida and California. She remarried in 1953, to Gerald H. Houghton.

She was executive secretary to the vice president of Frederick & Nelson, comptroller of First Mutual Savings Bank for 14 years and senior commercial escrow officer for Transnation Title Insurance Co. in Seattle for 14 years.

Her sister Betty died in 1978. Her husband died June 14.

Survivors include her daughters Cynthia Kay, Denisse Hedman and Merilee Knight; five grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

A combined memorial service will be held for both Mr. and Mrs. Houghton at 1 p.m. July 1 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Northeast 12th Street at 84th Avenue Northeast in Medina.

Nieuwhof-Houghton, C.E. "Judy," 76, homemaker, passed away August 10, 2006. Visitation 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Hillside Funeral Home East. Rosary 9:30 a.m., and Mass 10 a.m., both Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita 67208. "Judy" was preceded in death by infant son, Richard; and husbands, C.W. "Kees" Nieuwhof and Asa Houghton.

Survivors: daughter, Margaret (Richard) Nieuwhof-Harig of Auburn, Wash; sons, Robert (Christy) Nieuwhof of Henderson, Nev., Gary (Jill) Nieuwhof of Milwaukie, Ore., Thomas (Dana) Nieuwhof of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
