Biographyson Jack Houghton: Our father, was for many years a member of the Elkhart City Fire Department and eventually rose to serve as one of four Assistant Chiefs and then for his last ten years of service as Chief for the entire city Fire Department. In the relatively early days of radio technology, he planned and helped to build the first Elkhart City Fire Department radio communications center that still stands and operates today, although no doubt, much modernized. Later he went to work for the Elkhart Community School System as a buildings and grounds administrator.
Our mother and father and we five sons, lived at the home our parents built in about 1925, at 1307 East Indiana Avenue in Elkhart, Indiana not far from the banks of the Elkhart River. That home still stands today and is now home for some other family1

Biographyson Jack Houghton: At a very young age her parents Earl and Anna Warner moved from the Chicago area to Northern Indiana near Elkhart eventually settling on a small farm in Osceola, Indiana just a few miles to the West of Elkhart, Indiana (my home town), where she eventually met and married our father Miles Benjamin Houghton who was born, in Elkhart, Indiana in 1905. I remember the old Warner farmstead well and the farmhouse still stands and is occupied to this day. They had wonderful fruit trees (apples, peaches, cherries, and pears), asparagus fields, grape arbors, vegetable plots, and a giant spice garden. They also kept a few pigs and chickens.
