Howard Houghton, 50, of 514 N. Eighth St., died Sunday in a Madison hospital after he accidentally shot himself which loading a 12- gauge shotgun into the trunk of his car.
Ruling the death accidental. John Stevenson, assistant Dane County coroner, said no inquest will be held.
The discharge from the shotgun struck Mr. Houghton in the chest. The mishap occurred as he was packing the gun and other personal items into the trunk of the car.
Born in Pecatooica. Ill., Mr. Houghton had lived in Madison most of his life, and was employed by the Village of Maple Bluff as a maintenance man.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Whiting, 613 Ring St., and Mrs. Kenneth Slattery, 110 S. Brooks St; a son. Steven, 414 W. Mifflin St; his mother, Mrs. Margaret Houghton, Cherry Valley, Ill; three brothers and a sister, all of Cherry Valley, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Joyce Funeral Home. The Rev. Morris Wee ; will officiate, with burial in Rose- lawn Cemetery.

DAVIS - Millard L. Haughton oí Davis, a retired farmer, died Thursday morning at Davis after a brief illness.
A member of Winnebago County Farm Bureau, he moved to Davis from Pecatonica five years ago.
Born March 3,1900, in Pecatonica, he was the son of Louis and Viola (Bowerman) Haughton.
The only immediate survivor is a sister, Mrs. Zora McCornock of Rockford.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at McCorkle Funeral Home, Durand. The Rev. Thomas Hardwick, pastor of Durand United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Pecatonica Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marie Houghton, 49, of Cherry Valley, who died Sunday in St. Anthony hospital in Rockford, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at 428 Park avenue; Rockford. Dr. O. Garfield Beckstrand will officiate and burial will be in Twelve Mile Grove cemetery at Seward.
Friends may call at the Park avenue address between 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday.
A resident of Cherry Valley for 21 years, she was bom in Rockford, thò daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Templin. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Rockford.
Surviving are her husband, Forrest; one daughter, Mrs. Doris Mash, Rockford; four sons, Wayne of Belviderre and John, Lester and William, all at home; her mother. Mrs. Anna Peterson, Pecatonica; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Laskoski, Rockford; two brothers. John ,of Leaf River and Henry of Ossea.
