Canadian Military Service:

     Stephen Edgar Main began military service on 18 December 1915 at the age of 27 years, 1 month and 22 days at Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. His residence at the time of enlistment was Silton, Saskatchewan where he worked as a butcher. He enlisted in the 68th Overseas Battalion. In his discharge papers his occupation was listed as a farmer..2
     On June 1916, he was buried by a shell explosion and unconscious for 10 or 15 minutes. He was bed ridden for a week, and returned to service about 4 weeks later. He later "went over the top" with a machine gun detachment.2
     On 15 August 1917, at Hill 70, Lens, France, he received gun shot wounds in his shoulder and neck. He suffered partial paralysis on his right side for over a month. He was invalided to Canada on Nov 19, 1917 and was in a Winnipeg hospital for two years after that.2,1 Stephen Edgar Main ended his military service on 28 September 1918 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, after being wounded the second time, he was medically unfit for further war service. He had served in the 68th Battalion, the 15th Reserve Battalion and the 5th Battalion. He received one Gold Bar for his service..
