Francis Xavier Plaunt1

M, #17988, b. between 1807 and 1808, d. 6 March 1890
Last Edited18 Jan 2023
He was born between 1807 and 1808.1 He was born circa 1811 at Lower Canada, British North America.2 Francis married Anne MacLean.1,2
Francis Xavier Plaunt died on 6 March 1890. The informant was Joseph Plaunt.3
Xavia and Janet Plant appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census (delayed) of Horton Twp., Renfrew County, Canada West, enumerated 12 January 1852. Xavia was described as a farmer and "tavern", probably a tavern keeper. Their children, Thomas, Joseph, Janet, Xavia and William, were listed as living with them. With the exception of Janet, all were recorded as R. Catholic while she was Ch. of Scotland (Presbyterian.)2
The following biographical information was shared at an email from Diane Vermaat, 11 November 2003:
"Francis Xavier Plant [C1807 - 1808] and his wife, Janet MacLean came to Renfrew in 1827 from St. Cathbert, Province of Que. and worked for Joseph Mayhew who had timber interests in Renfrew Country. It is possible that the Mayhews and Plaunts were known to each other much earlier. Francis Xavier Plaunt died on March 6, 1890 - Age 82. His son, Joseph Plaunt of Renfrew registered his death. His son, Xavier Plaunt of Sebastapol was an Innkeeper. He married Mary MacMillian of Wilberforce, who was born in Buchingham. Bruce W. Taylor, while preparing a history on the Plaunt family, came across an old map of L'lle de Orleans, drawn in 1709, which lists a farm owned by P. Maheu in the parish of Chateau Richer where Jean Plante settled. This P. Maheu is likely a descendant of Pierre Maheux who originally came from Perche, France. The dates for Joseph Maheu from Cateaugay are 1797 to August 16, 1881. Joseph and his wife Charlotte Honeywell are buried in the Horton Cemetery on Thompson Road off old Hwy. # 17 in Renfrew."1
