John Krieger was referenced in a newspaper article about Drowning at Palmer Rapids
It was a great shock to the whole community when the news spread on Thursday evening last that Ferdinand Liebenthal, eldest son of Frank Liebenthal, perished in the Madawaska river. The victim had been working on the Combermere road, and after supper he and Garnet Easton got into a canoe to sail down to Proudfoot's store to get some provisions. On the way back -- near the bridge at Mr. Fred Krieger's -- the canoe upset in the current. Mr. Liebenthal jumped and made an effort to swim to the shore but it would seem the current was too strong and he turned back to the canoe. He reached the mark but was too exhausted to get into it. He sank beneath the treacherous waters and drowned. Mr. Easton stayed with the canoe until rescued by John Krieger and Thomas Phanenhaur. on 25 May 1934 at Eganville, Ontario, Canada.20

    Hi Rick,

Mary Ann Rayner had written to the Dumfries & Galloway Library about Robert Moffat & Jane/Jean Renwick. The reply revealed Jane's baptism and her parents:

Aug 27, 2014 note from Erica Johnson, Research Officer at the Dumfries & Galloway Library to Mary-Anne Rayner:
Robert Moffat and Jean Renwick did indeed marry on the 14th December 1810, in Kirkpatrick Juxta Parish, Dumfriesshire. The records from the Old Parish Registers do not include Parents details in Marriage entries.
I searched for Baptism Records for Robert Moffat but unfortunately none was found. His burial record was noted as Robert Moffat in Craigielands Village, buried Moffat Churchyard on the 13th May 1852. But no gravestone was found for him or his wife.
The couple are found in the 1851 Census living at Craiglands Village...
I had better luck with Jean Renwick, who was baptised on the23rd June 1790, daughter of William Renwick and Janet Beattie, in Johnstone Parish Dumfriesshire....
The Renwicks were buried in Wamphray Parish Kirkyard:
"In Memory of William Renwick, died at Cleughbrae 21st March 1827, aged 80 years. Also Jannet Beattie, his spouse died 15th April 1828 aged 78 years."

Now... if we could just find Robert's parents...

    Gerry.
