MISC.: Birth information from Henry Clay McDuffee, "McDuffee Family"; 1906; she married first William Gordin (Gordon) and secondly a Mr. Dunshee. She was famous for the manufacture of fine linen and was a midwife of note.
MARRIAGE: Rutland, MA, Vital Records. Martha "McAphee" of Londonderry and William Gordin, marriage intention, 12 Oct 1745. Massachusetts Marriages, 1695 - 1910 - No Image
Note: this is of great interest because it lists her name as McAphee, or probably McAfee, whereas her father Daniel was called McDuffee, except in one interesting reference from MA, "History of Haverhill, MA": on page 311, "Daniel Mackafee, Heugh Mackcafee, and John Mackcafee" were names on a list north of the NH state line in 1741. This could simply be misspelling, which it is anyway, or actually a variant of McAfee or McFee. There is at least one other occasion when the Londonderry McDuffees were referred to as McFees (see Daniel McDuffee).

4 His wife,
Laura, died on 15 September 1863, leaving him a widower.
2 Henry Clay McDuffee, son of John and Dolly (Greenleaf) McDuffee, obtained his education in Bradford, Vermont, where he attended the public schools and academy. His home was on the paternal farm until about 1869, when he removed to his present residence in the village [of Bradford, Vermont?] on Main street. At an early age he learned surveying, an occupation which he has since pursued with more or less regularity. Upon the death of his father [in 1851] and brother Charles [in 1863], who were agents for Joseph Bell, of Boston, an extensive landowner, having large real estate interests in Canada, New England and the western states, Mr. McDuffee was appointed agent in their place and was given the management and control of the sale of these large properties, a trust which he discharged with business-like sagacity. During that time and since he has had charge of many other extensive estates in different parts of the country. For a number of years he was connected with and had charge of several large oil wells and coal mines in Ohio. He was also the manager of a linen mill Claremont, New Hampshire, for about two years.
As a progressive and public-spirited citizen Mr. McDuffee takes an active interest in the welfare of his town, contributing largely toward its prosperity.
