JOHN HAUGHTON
GREENUP – John Haughton, 64, of rural Greenup died at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Carle Hospital, Urbana.

He was injured in a farm combine accident July 12.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Barkley Funeral Home, Greenup.

Mr. Haughton was born April 17, 1911, in Janesville, the son of Dr. Nicholas J. and Bertha Haughton. He married Mary Lou Smith July 5, 1941, in Georgia. She survives.

He is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Niki) Todd of Manchester, Tenn; one sister, Helen of Greenup; and two grandchildren.

He was a member of the Greenup United Methodist Church and Greenup Masonic Lodge 125.

Geraldine S Houghton (Cheek) 82 passed away at home with her family by her side on July 19, 2015. Geraldine (Geri) was born on October 16, 1932 in Washington D.C. Her mother was Stephanie Helen Cheek (Maserick) and father was John Walker Cheek, Sr. Geri was the beloved wife of Donald E. Houghton Sr. and adored mother of Rebecca Anne Papenfuss (Jim), Linda Sue Gretz (Walter), Doreen Marie Janas, and Donald Edward Houghton Jr. (Danette). Geri had been preceded in death by her parents, brother John W. Cheek, Jr. and sister-in-law Dorothy (Womeldorf) Cheek. She resided in North Ridgeville, Ohio for 37 years with her husband. She was a devoted mother and housewife. Prior to living in Ohio, Geri lived in New York, West Virginia, Virginia and Washington D.C. Geri is survived by her husband and 4 children; 8 grandchildren - Dawn Marie Barnes (Kenny), Melissa Ann Ferry (James), Stacy Lynn Nauerz (Nate), Crystal Lynn Janas, Stephen Thomas Janas, Meredith Marie Houghton, Brandon Donald and James Frederic Papenfuss; 7 great-grand-children - Andrew Charles, Tyler Edward and Kayla Elizabeth Barnes, Gracyn Mae Ferry, Liam Joseph Nauerz, Alaina and Deagan Boland. In addition, Geri is survived by her sister in-law Joyce Tracey (Ron), several nieces and nephews - Barbie Roche (Chuck), Debbie Brown, Stephanie Cheek, John Cheek III, Mark Tracey (Cyndy), Scott Tracey (Nancy), Dawn Cyman (Ted), Jill Grauman (Don), Leah McSparron (Kevin) and many great nieces and nephews. Geri was an excellent pianist. She enjoyed going to church, bowling, shopping, reading novels, fishing, and most important loving the company of her family. Geri and Donald were happily married over 62 years. Geri wanted her body donated for scientific research after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. A Memorial Mass will be held in Geri's honor on September 21, 2015 at 10 AM at St. Peter Parish, 35777 Center Ridge Road, North Ridgeville, Ohio 44039. Memorial donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to St. Peter Parish or Mercy New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
