"Jack" Houghton was born on in Cleethorpes, England in 1916 and passed away in Vancouver, WA.
He became a civil engineer pre-WWII and supervised the construction of bomber airfields in the United Kingdom and Ceylon (Sri Lanka). Jack served in the Royal Air Force in Germany, the UK, and the Far East before joining the United Nations (ICAO). Jack built commercial airports in Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia and Syria and later consulted on many more around the world.
He retired in 1976 and after the death of his first wife, Jack moved to the USA in 1988. He married Nancy Engleman in 1999.
He is survived by Nancy, two children, three step-children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

David A. Martin, 45

PUTNAM, CT - David A. Martin, 45, of Putnam, died suddenly Saturday, May 31, 2014. Born in Webster, MA, he was the son of Kathleen E. (Houghton) Martin of Putnam and the late Russell A. Martin.

David was a graduate of the Putnam High School and he served with the United States Navy. He was a loving son, father, brother, and uncle and leaves behind many fond memories, much laughter, and fun times.

David is survived by his mother, a daughter Alicia Martin of Putnam; a brother Russell Martin and his wife Tamie of Woodstock, a sister Sara Gagnon and her husband William "Bill" of Thompson; and nieces and nephews Zachary, Katelyn, Patrick, Caroline, and Logan. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents Paul and Elizabeth Houghton and his paternal grandparents Russell and Theresa Martin all formerly of Webster, MA.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with David's family from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 6, 2014, in the Gilman Funeral Home, 104 Church St., Putnam. A gathering will begin in the funeral home on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 218 Providence St, Putnam, CT. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Dudley. MA. Memorial donations in David's memory may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Way, Memphis, TN 38105. Her husband, Christopher C. Riordan, died in 1966. Her brothers, Edmund B. and Richard L. Houghton, and her sister Flora L. Cobiski, predeceased her. She leaves nephews and nieces.

Dot was born in Leicester, daughter of Emeline (Bouchard) and Edmund B. Houghton. She grew up in Leominster and graduated from Leominster High School.

She was an assistant manager in the fur department at the former Denholm & McKay department store in Worcester.

Dot was a longtime member of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish.

The funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. There will be a calling hour before the funeral Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester.
