BiographyJames Peter was a strange person. He was very jealous of his wife and would follow her to the doctors and peak in the window to make sure nothing was going on! James was married prior to being married to Alida. Marian states she believes his first wife divorced him. She does not remember her name. According to the 1910 census (also previous census records) he was a shoe fitter and worked in a shoe factory. According to the 1920 census records he was working as a collector for the Daily Home News. Marian also remembers this.

Mildred remembered Alida cutting food for James and they would have to be kept seperate from each other. He also ate them seperately. If he left the house with long under wear because it was chilly he would return to change them if it became warm. Later in the day if turned chilly again he would come home and again change to long underwear. Mildred said each time he would change to clean underwear.

James tried to teach Mildred the piano. If she made a mistake he would yell halt and then slam down the cover on her hands. Needless to say Mildred never learned to play the piano. All of the children had to be in bead before he arrived home in the evening. When Marian went to visit he would say "is that kid here again".

James and Alida went to live with their daughter Hazel and her family at the end of their lives. Alida was very ill with diabetes and got gangrene of the toe from it. Before the toe could be amputated she died. Before she died the priest visited her often (Hazel and Arther were Catholic). He did not get many visits from her pastor. Just beofre she died she converted to Catholic. This caused a big fight in the family. James Clarence never wanted to speak to the fmaily again. Carole does rember family reunions shen she was very young and James Clarence and his family were always present. James was always caledl Clarence. Florence got very angry woth the family but later forgave everyone.1

ResearchChristopher Wade Houghton: Chad Houghton was the second child of Maureen Wade ; he legally changed name to Chad Keefe after stepfather Richard Reiser legally adopted him. Richard Reiser's stage name as a standup comedian was Adam Keefe. When Maureen Frances Wade married Adam Keefe, his real name was Richard Rieser and the Keefe name was a stage name on his cabaret card.My brother Chad still got the name ‘Keefe’ when he was adopted, so I’m not sure how the stage name works.1
