Samuel L. Houghton, 51, of Citrus Springs, Florida, died on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. He was born in Geneva, Ohio, on Sunday, March 22, 1959, to Theodore and Sarah (Heater) Houghton. Sam was a job site supervisor for Terra Vista of Citrus Hills and the owner and operator of Schrade Taekwondo and Kumdo, LLC, in Crystal River, Florida. He was a second degree black belt and was a member of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation. He was an avid runner and participated in local 5-K's.
Sam was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Houghton of Citrus Springs, Florida; son, Hudson Houghton; daughters, Amanda, Jessie and Brandy Houghton, all of Citrus Springs, Florida; brother, Richard Slocum of Ohio; and sister, Vicki Allen and husband Rick of Ohio.
A Mausoleum Chapel Service will take place on Monday, January 31, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Fero Memorial Gardens, 5891 N. Lecanto Highway, Beverly Hills, Florida, 34465.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Houghton Fund, 1861 Rolling Place, Citrus Springs, Florida 34434.

Helen was born to William J and Helen P Brendel in White Lake Township, Michigan. She attended Milford Schools, and furthered her education receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree at Eastern Michigan University, and then received her Master of Social Work from Wayne University. Helen attained these degrees while raising her 3 daughters, and teaching school in Waterford. She then worked for Oakland Schools for 21 years, receiving an award signed by Govenor George Romney for her work in Vocational Rehabilitation. Her role in aiding handicapped children over the years who had vocational limitaions, was rewarded by the many friendships that she maintained upon her retirement. Helen spent her retirement years volunteering in many ways, and always helping her daughters with the 18 grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to all who knew her.
