Delbert Marian Houghton
Delbert Houghton, 72, died Friday, May 16, 2003, in Oxnard, Calif., after a long battle with circulation problems and then cancer. Del was born March 10, 1931, in Houghton Hurdsfield, N.D., to Earl and Pearl Houghton. The family moved to Hamilton in Sept., 1936, where he got all his schooling and was in the class of 1949.
Del joined the Navy in Sept., 1950, and was first in training at the U.S. Naval Training Center in San Diego. He married Eliena “Ginger” Phillips in 1955 in Seattle. They lived on several naval bases, induding two years in Guam. Del served overseas in the Korean and Vietnam wars and was promoted to chief petty officer. He retired from the Navy with 31 years of service. Del then became a manager of a large school cafeteria near Oxnard and retired from that job alter several years. Ginger passed away in 1994, and his survivors are - a son, Michad, and a daughter, April, and their families, all in Oxnard; brother, Jack, and wife, Ruth, of Emporia, Kan; sistere, Merna Lange of Siloam Springs, Ark., Nona Lester, Jewell Steele, and sister-in-law, Ruth Houghton, all of Hamilton, ami several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Glen, Vem, Garold, Eddie and Art. Cremation took place and at his request no services were held.

She enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader. Survivors include a son, Eric, Dunedin; three daughters, Ann Houghton, Balsam, N.C., Amy Guthrie, Tallahassee, and Nancy Penney, Lexington, S.C; and four grandsons, Adam Penney and Luke Penney, both of Lexington, and John Guthrie and Thomas Guthrie, both of Tallahassee. Douglas Critzer Houghton, 77, loving wife and mother, formerly of Waynesboro, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2005 at Pheasant Ridge Nursing Home in Roanoke. She was born March 20, 1928 in Augusta County, the daughter of the late Forrest J. and Mildred Bruce Critzer. Doug was a member of the First Christian Church in Stuart, Fla. and a founding member of the West Waynesboro Church of Christ. Throughout her life, she was employed at Acme Visible Records, Rule Volkswagen, Baugher Chevrolet and Carl Riddlebarger Plumbing and Heating. She and Woody enjoyed their retirement in Stuart, Fla. from 1990 to 2004, when they returned to Roanoke, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia C. Lloyd. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Harry "Woody" Houghton of Roanoke; a son, Jerry Houghton of Roanoke; three daughters, Virginia Allen of Powhatan, Anita Via of Staunton and Lynette Hughes of Waynesboro; and one sister Catherine Quick. She enjoyed her ten grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service with Phil Forehand officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Augusta Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Reynolds Funeral Service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.¹
