Bev Cantrill: Mary Sophronia HOUGHTON was born about 1825. Age 25 in 1850 census, age 55 in 1880 census. She married Theodore Lambert May 26, 1847 Old Fulton NY Postcards. She and Theodore appeared in the 1860 census in Kirkland, New York with her mother, in the 1870 census in Westfield, Wisconsin with their sons William and John, in the 1880 census in South Branch, Minnesota with Mary’s mother and their son John, in the 1875 territorial census also with Rhoda and John. Theodore served for the Union in the Civil War serving in the 32^nd Wisconsin infantry and returned a Sergeant. Mary died December 20, 1894 and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, St. James, Minnesota, findagrave.

Bev Cantrill: His death record said his middle name was Monruff, but I believe it was Montrose or Monross. Our family claimed to be descended from the Duke of Montrose of Scotland. This was apparently incorrect. Monross was the name of our ancestor.

John was in the 1860 census in Westfield, Marquette, Wisconsin with his parents and brother. In 1870 he was in South Branch, Watonwan, Minnesota with his parents and brother. In 1875 he was in Watonwan County with his parents. in 1880 he was in South Branch, Watonwan, Minnesota with his parents and Rhoda Houghton.
In 1885 he was with his wife and his parents in Watonwan County. In 1900 he was in St. James with his wife and children Mary, Theodore and Inez. In 1910 he and his wife were in Spokane, Washington. In 1920 they were in Graves, Spokane, Washington.

He died June 16, 1929 in Clackamus, Oregon. He is buried in Mountain View Cemetery , Oregon City, Clackamus, Oregon. Oregon death records and find a grave.

Bev Cantrill: John Montrose LAMBERT June 9, 1854 in Wisconsin. Findagrave, death record, Charles Lambert records. Concerning the name Montrose, Theodore Lambert’s mother was Sarah Monross. The Lambert legend is that this comes from Montrose, and that we are descended from the Duke of Montrose of Scotland. The Duke of Montrose’s surname was Graham as far as I can tell. Charles gave the middle name Montrose to one of his daughters. My father had a set of china created with the Montrose coat of arms. He is listed in the 1860 census in Westfield, Wisconsin with his parents and brother William, in the 1870 census in South Branch, Minnesota with his parents, his brother and his grandmother, Rhoda Houghton, in the 1875 territorial census he is also in South Branch with the same family,in the 1880 census the family are still in South Branch. On November 30, 1881 he married Onnie Anna Drury or Drew in Watonwan County, Minnesota. Marriage record. In the 1885 territorial census he is listed in St. James, Minnesota with his parents, his grandmother, his wife and his children Mary and Theodore, in the 1900 census he is in St. James with his father, his wife, his children Mary, Theodore and Inez, and some boarders, in 1910 he is listed in Graves, Spokane, Washington with his wife and Theodore and Inez, in 1920 he was still in Graves with his wife. John died June 16, 1929 in West Mobella, Oregon and is buried in Mount View Cemetery in Oregon City.
