Houghton Surname Project

Richard Acker: John may have worked for Mr. Astle, since family history says that John lived in one of three houses that Mr. Astle owned on Red Bank (?) hill in England. Mr. Astle emigrated to the US (my records say that "Robison print works sent for a master engraver and Elijah Astle was sent to America"). Richard Hoghton (John's brother) followed Mr. Astle shortly thereafter, and John and Nancy came not long after Richard. Our records indicate that John and Nancy Hoghton arrived in Fall River, Massachusetts at the end of 1829.¹
