Note that all the Houghtons on this tree are from the John Houghton line and they develop into two distinct lines......the Corning Houghtons who moved from Bolton to Massachusetts and then on to Corning, New York with Amory Houghton Sr and his wife Sophronia, and a line that branched off with Simon Houghton, a cousin, in Bolton that headed north into Fredonia, New York and included Judge Jacob Houghton, Lawrence Stearnes Houghton and Douglas Houghton (the one famous in Michigan). The reason that I have both lines is that my father's grandmother was Theodosia Fredonia Houghton, daughter of Laurence Stearnes Houghton. My mother was Jane Olmsted Houghton, daughter of Arthur A. Houghton Jr.²
