Bliss native Richard C. Houghton, 59, died Sunday (June 2, 1996) in his Rugby Avenue home.

Born in Warsaw, he was a 1954 graduate of the Bliss High School and 1957 graduate of Alfred State College of Technology.

He served in the Army Reserves for six years and was an avid antique collector.

Houghton retired in February from the wholesale floral industry in Rochester.

Survivors include a sister, Marjorie Martin of Delevan; a brother, William of Oxnard, Calif; and a close friend, John Markwica.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Weeks Funeral Home, 123 N. Main St., Warsaw. Private burial will be in Lyonsburg Cemetery, Bliss.

BRICK TOWNSHIP - Victor Skog Houghton, 86, a retired insurance investigator. died yesterday at Point Pleasant Hospital. Mr. Houghton was an investigator 37 years for New York Life Insurance Co. before retiring in 1961. He was born in Elmira Heights, N.Y., and lived in Oakland before moving here 16 years ago. He was a member of the Manasquan Bible Church and Point Pleasant Old Guard. His wife. Edith, died in 1978. Surviving are a son. Victor. Oakland; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Sniadack, Rye Brook, N.Y., and Mrs. Lois Batchler, Binghamton, N.Y; a brother, Kenneth, Elmira. N.Y; nine grandchildren and five great- grandchildren.

Note

Son, Thomas Jefferson Howton, told his daughter, Minnie Howton Dickerson, about living on Elm Creek at Owens. He said the Indians were friendly to them and after giving them some corn when they were hungry, they awoke one morning to find all the weeds pulled from their corn field-and many moccasins tracks there. Another time the children found rocks piled as markers along the way from Owens to Brownwood, so the Howton children would not lose their way riding horseback home from school.³
