LeGrand B. Houghton, 69, of 108 Falconer St., North Tonawanda, principal of North Tona-! wanda Elementary School, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening (July 25. 1956) in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. Born in Java Village, N. Y., he had lived in North Tonawanda 32 years. Mr. Houghton, a graduate of Geneseo State Normal School in 1907, also studied at Syracuse University. He received his master’s degree from the University of Buffalo in 1934. Before coming to North Tonawanda, he taught school in Freedom, West Valley, Honeoye, Lafayette, Bath and Shortsville. In North Tonawanda, he had been principal of the old Goundry St. Elementary School since 1924 and of the Grant St. School since 1955. He was a member of the North Presbyterian Church, a member of Steuben Lodge 112, F&AM, of Bath, Tonawanda Chapter 278 F&AM, and Corning Consistory and a life member of Shortsville IOOF lodge. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Whitney Houghton, and a son, Hubert W. of Albany. The Rev. A. Ray Lewis will conduct the funeral service at 10 AM Saturday in the Wattengel Funeral Home. 307 Oliver St. Burial will be in Varysburg Cemetery'. Masonic memorial services by Sutherland Lodge will be held at 8 PM Friday in the funeral home.⁷
