Grace M. (Wilkins) Houghton, 87, of Pleasant Street Extension, Plymouth, passed away January 9, at the Speare Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born March 31, 1896 in Whitefield, N.H., the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Susie (Haley) Wilkins. She moved here as a young girl and lived her entire life in Plymouth. She is the widow of the late Herbert W. Houghton who passed away in 1973. She worked for the American Tel. & Tel. Company as an operator for 22 years. She later worked in the office of the Mt. Media for many years.

Members of the family include a daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Geraldine) Patterson of Rumney, a sister, Mrs. Doris Wherland of Meredith, four grandchildren, Mrs. Russell (Charlotte) Mottram of Bloomfield, Conn., Mrs Albert (Florence) Daigle of Rumney, Ray Patterson of Rumney and Roger Patterson of Dover N.H; nine great-grandchildren, nieces a nephew and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at LaFontaine Funeral Home, 65 Highland Street. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 Wednesday. >The Plymouth Record, January 12, 1984.

WEST SPRINGFIELD George H. Houghton, 76, of Craig Drive, died Friday in the Weldon Rehabilitation Center at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He was a 17-year shipping supervisor at the former Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. bakery in Springfield. He later worked part time at the Stop & Shop Supermarket here and retired in 1982. Born in Bethel, Vt., he moved to Franconia, N.H., and settled in this area in 1951. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge in the winter of 1944-45. He leaves his wife of 53 years, the former Arleta C. Gray; two sons, Herbert F. Locke of Glastonbury, Conn., and Timothy G. Houghton of Chicopee; two daughters, Lois A. Duris of Iceland and Deanna M. Symiakakis of Agawam; two brothers, Paul of Montpelier, Vt., and Carroll of Bethlehem, N.H; a sister, Helen Burlock of Vergennes, Vt; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Carmilla Mansfield, died in 1985. The funeral will be Tuesday morning at Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home, with burial in Paucatuck Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday afternoon and evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2 Mount Royal Ave., Marlborough, MA 01752.³

Deacon Houghton was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., and had been a resident of Gautier for 19 years. He was a deacon at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gautier and was a member of Secular Fransican Order and Saint Vincent de Paul Society of East Jackson County. He was a volunteer for Hospice of Light and Prison Ministry at the Adult Detention Center in Pascagoula. He retired from Ingalls in 1995 after 16 years of employment. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur S. and Cecilia G. Houghton. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Anne Houghton of Gautier; two sons, Kevin P. Houghton of Mandeville, La., and Richard T. Houghton of Jacksonville, Fla; a daughter, Colette S. Houghton of Biloxi; two brothers, Arthur S. Houghton of Long Island, N.Y., and William Houghton of Whitefield, N.H; and three grandchildren.Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial in Biloxi National Cemetery. O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula and Gautier is in charge of arrangements.

The funeral for Leonard Howard Houghton, 65, of 91 Knollwood St., who died as a result of a fire at his home, will be Thursday morning at the Springfield Church of God, with burial in Springfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Wednesday evening at Henderson Funeral Home.

Houghton was a retired 15-year stockroom supervisor for Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.

Born in Waitsfield, Vt., he lived in this city for the past 37 years.

He was a member of the Springfield Church of God and a member of its Boys Brigade, the Men's Fellowship, and the Senior Citizens Ensemble. He also enjoyed making root beer at the church's annual Sunday School picnic.

He also was a Boy Scout leader at Our Lady of Hope Church.

He leaves his wife, the former Doris Cook; a son, Leonard Jr. of Conley, Ga; three daughters, Mary Houghton-Bynum, Leonara Houghton, and Luciana Houghton, all of Springfield; four brothers, George of West Springfield, Wesley of Englewood, Fla., Paul of Montpelier, Vt., and Carroll of Tolland, Conn; a sister, Helen Burlock of Vergennes, Vt; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions for his family may be made to the Springfield Church of God, 321 Wilbraham Road, Springfield, 01109.

Louisville, KY, USA, Alfred John Houghton Sr., 79, of 600 Seneca Ave., died Monday at St Anthony Medical Center. He was a native of New Hampshire and a retired self-employed truck driver. Survivors: his wife, the former Lulu Signor; a son, Alfred J. Houghton Jr; a daughter, Patricia Holden of Lexington; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The body will be cremated.

Born in Manchester, N.H., he came here 11 years ago from Hopkinton, N.H., and was a retired deputy fire chief for the Manchester Fire Department and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a Catholic, a member of the American Legion, former president of the Association of Firefighters, and president of the State Permanent Firefighters Association and the Firemen's Relief Association, all of New Hampshire. Survivors include his wife, Jean A; two sons, Thomas and Brian, both of Manchester; two stepsons, Tracy and James Pluff, both of Hopkinton; three daughters, Kathy Houghton, Deerfield, Mass., and Jane and Ann Houghton, both of Manchester; a stepdaughter, Kathy Pluff, Hopkinton; five brothers, John, Madawaske, Maine, and Lawrence, Richard, Paul and William, all of Manchester; two sisters, Mary Wagner, Manchester, and Ann LaFortune, Riverdale, Ga; and three grandchildren. Mr. Houghton was born in East Montpelier, Vt., and moved to this area 35 years ago from Boca Grande, Fla. He retired as hotel chef at the Manasota Beach Club, also working in New England. He attended Englewood United Methodist Church, Englewood, Fla. Survivors include a sister, Helen Burlock, Vergennus, Vt., brothers, George of W. Springfield, Mass., Paul of Montpelier, Vt., Carroll of Bethelham, N.H; also many nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 27, 1998, at Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood Chapel. Services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial at Sarasota Memorial Park, Sarasota, Fla.⁴
