Chicago, Cook Co., IL, USA, Albert P. Houghton, Rider and Marksman of Buffalo Bill Show Dies at 86
January 25, 1944, Tuesday
Chicago, Jan. 24. The ashes of Albert Parker Houghton, rider and sharpshooter of the old Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and an intrepid hunter, were strewn among the cedars of Acacia Park Cemetery today. He died on Thursday at the age of 86 in a home where he had been living with retired show people for five years.
Born in New York, Mr. Houghton was ready to settle down to a life in the city when an uncle, who owned a ranch near North Platte, Neb., paid the family a visit. His stories of the wild West so intrigued young Houghton that he headed for North Platte on his eighteenth birthday. By the time he was 25 he had become so skillful as rider and marksman that reports of his ability reached William F. Cody (Buffalo Bill), who signed him for a leading part in his show, which opened in 1883. Known as Colarado Al, yound Houghton toured the United States and Europe with the famous show.
Mrs. Houghton died five years ago. Surviviing are two daughters.¹
