United States Army, a former resident of Port Byron, was killed in action in New Ouinea on May 3. last, the War Department has announced. Private Ball had been in the army for four years. He enlisted about a year prior to Pearl Harbor. Born on June 15, 1920 near Savannah. N. Y.. he attended school at South Butler. He is a son of William H Bail of Savannah After leaving school he worked, for a time at Newark. Joining the Army in 1940, he was sent to the Hawaiian Islands and he was there when Pearl Harbor was bombed. His survivors are his father. W H. Ball of Savannah; three sisters Mrs. Eva Wood of Auburn, formerly of Port Byron, and Mrs Beatrice Tasche of East Syracuse, and Mrs. Ethel Marr of Clyde; two half sisters. Miss Eugenia Ball and Miss Ruth Ball of Savannah; a brother. Raymond Ball of Clyde. and a half brother. William Ball of Savannah.
