Francis E. Houghton: salesman
Francis E. Houghton, a Yonkers native and a former Ossining resident, died yesterday at St. Francis Hospital in the town of Poughkeep- sie. He was 65.
Born July 3, 1927, in Yonkers to James and Julia Dunne Houghton, he lived in Yonkers until 1968, when he moved to Ossining. He moved to Highland in Ulster County in 1988. On Dec. 7, 1947, he married Florence Meyers in Yonkers. He served in the U.S. Navy and, later, worked as a salesman for the R.J. Reynolds Co. Mr. Houghton was a captain in the Cataract Hose Co. in Ossining. He later became a member of the New Paltz Rod & Gun Club in New Paltz, N.Y.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, also in New Paltz. He is survived by his wife of Highland; three sons, Raymond Houghton of Corona, Calif., Roger Houghton of Summit, N.Y., and Richard Houghton of Newburgh; a daughter, Susan Orts of Highland; a brother, James Houghton of Stevensville, Md; and 10 grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by the Sutton Funeral Home of Clintondale, N.Y.

Obituary

John Matthew Haughton, of Wilmington, died unexpectedly, May 15, 2004, after an extended illness.

He was born April 9, 1959, in Woodbury, NJ.

John was active in sports at John T. Hoggard High School, where he graduated in 1977. He attended Western Carolina University and later UNC-W, where he graduated with degrees in Psychology and Nursing. He began his career as a nurse in Pediatrics at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Later, he worked with PPD doing clinical research monitoring, eventually becoming self-employed as a consultant in the same field until incapacitated by illness.

John is survived by his parents, Milton A. and Theresa M. Haughton of the home, one sister, Margaret L. Christmas and husband Robert M. of Gainesville, GA, seven surviving brothers, Steven L. Haughton of Durham, NC, Robert A. Haughton and wife Carole of Wilmington, Thomas J. Haughton and wife Tana of Lancaster, PA, William J. Haughton and wife Nina of Newark, DE, David M. Haughton and wife Debora of Winchester VA, and Christopher M. Haughton and wife Deborah of Apex, NC and Richard P. Haughton of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts, and extended family. John was preceded in death by a brother, Edward P. Haughton.

A Prayer Vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at St. Mark Catholic Church on Eastwood Road.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. by Father Matthew Hendrick at St. Mark Catholic Church.

John loved the outdoors, whether in the mountains or at the beach. He especially enjoyed the years he spent windsurfing with his friends, especially at Buzzard Bay and photographing the world around him. Finally, he'll miss all the friends he met along the way. "What a long strange trip it is."
