Memorial services for Ruth Meryl (Houghton) Wood, 76, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Living Water Christian Fellowship, 5605 N. Market St. Spokane Cremation and Burial is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wood was a lifelong resident of the Spokane area. She died May 8.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1942 and met her husband Jim Wood in 1946 while attending Eastern Washington University. They were married in 1947.

Mrs. Wood also attended the University of Washington and earned a bachelor of arts and master's degree from EWU.

She taught elementary school in Spokane Public Schools for most of her 35-year career.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Jeryl Reinbolt of Spokane; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Deceased Name: Virginia Richards Houghton
91, a choir member at three churches in the Washington area who sang and played violin with the Friday Morning Music Club of Washington, died May 16 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a stroke. Mrs. Houghton, who lived at Leisure World in Silver Spring, was born in Louisville and graduated from the University of Louisville. As a young woman, she was a violinist with the Louisville Civic Orchestra and sang in summer operas. Mrs. Houghton moved to the Washington area 50 years ago. She sang in the choirs at the First Baptist Church of Hyattsville, the Interfaith Chapel at Leisure World and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Washington, where she was a soloist for 25 years. She was a member of the National Symphony's women's committee. Her husband, Harrison F. Houghton, died in 1974.
Survivors include two daughters, Carole Anderson of Annapolis and Bonnie Keya of Fairfax; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.¹

A retired employee of Ethyl Corp., he went to be with the Lord at his residence at 10 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76, a native of Independence and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday. Religious service at Greenoaks Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Francis Minh and the Rev. Frank Bass. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Phyllis Ann Coniglio Houghton of Baton Rouge; two sons, Patrick Houghton and wife Jackie of El Sobrante, Calif., and Stephen Houghton of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Donna H. Lively and husband Craig of Beaumont, Texas; two granddaughters, Lindsay and Amanda Lively, both of Beaumont; a sister, Anne Houghton Smith of Dallas; five nieces, eight nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, attorney and Mrs. William A. Houghton; a sister, Helen Houghton Bates; two brothers, William "Bill" and John H. Houghton; and a special uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Glover Holloway. Pallbearers will be Patrick Houghton, Stephen Houghton, Craig Lively, Big Salvador Coniglio, Charles Wyble and Little Salvador Coniglio. He was a member of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, American Legion Nicholson Post 38, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3784, Association of Aviation Ordnancemen (USN), Foundation for Historical Louisiana and the Leica Historical Society of America. He was a past member of the Navy Club, Ethyl Management Club and Knights of Columbus Council 4030. Memorial donations may be made to St. Louis King of France Catholic Church, 2121 N. Sherwood Forest Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70815.¹

Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 12:30 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Dominic Pham. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park Cemetery. She is survived by two sons, Patrick Houghton and wife Jackie, of Hercules, Calif., and Stephen Houghton and wife Marella; a son, Tristen and daughter, Shai, both of Walker; a daughter, Donna Houghton Lively and husband Craig, of Beaumont, Texas; two daughters, Lindsay Walleck and husband Phillip, of Arlington, Texas, and Amanda Pratt and husband Jonathan, of College Station, Texas; two sisters, Sarah Coniglio Blackwell, and Gena Coniglio Wyble and husband Charles; and two brothers, Johnny Coniglio and Salvador Coniglio and wife Francis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nace and Lucy Coniglio; her husband, Joseph D. Houghton; brother, Johnny Coniglio; and brother-in-law, Daniel Blackwell. Pallbearers will be Patrick Houghton, Stephen Houghton, Craig Lively, Charles Wyble, Little Sal Coniglio and Phillip Walleck. Honorary pallbearer is Salvador Coniglio.
