Sharon, CT, 1764; He came to Southington, Western Reserve in 1808; bought 200 acres ofland, cleared ten acres and returned to N.Y; returned in one year to Ohio. Lester Haughton of Southington, OH is the only living grandson of Henry Haughton. (Information furnished by Mary Chesney Chapter, Warren,OH.)

Letter from Mrs. R. Winnagle, Regent Mary Chesney Chapter, DAR, dated February 1, 1936 - Henry Horton's (so spelled) application for pension is in the Court House here, the application in over his own signature. I do not have copy at hand so cannot say whether it was an applicaton for transfer (which all had to make when moving from one state to another) or whether it was an application under the law of 1832, which gave increased pension. All those drawing under the law of 1818 made a new application; so there need be no difficulty on that point.

Letter dated February 23, 1936, West Farmington, OH, signed by F. H. Baxter 'information obtained for Frank Haughton.' 'Dear Mrs. Howlett: In answer to your inquiry regarding Henry Haughton's wife, the following information was obtained from the gravestones in the Center Southington Cemetary:'In Memory of Lavina Wife of Henry Haughton Who departed this life Oct 7, 1836 Aged 65 years -- Henry Haughton Died Dec 8, 1845 Aged 81 years'

Letter dated January 7, 1936, Veterans Administration, Pension Bureau, Revolutionary War Section- File No. 41652- Henry Horton 'Henry Horton was born in December 1766, day, place, and the names of his parents are not stated. Henry Horton enlisted in Colchester, CT, January 1, 1781, served as private in Capt. Timothy Allyn's Company, Colonel Samuel B. Webb's Third Ct Regiment, in 1783 was transferred to Captain Elisha Hopkins' CT Regiment, served next to Colonel William Hull's Regiment and was discharged about January 12, 1784. After the Revolutionary War soldier lived in Schoharie, New York. He was allowed pension on his application executed April 6, 1818, while a resident of Marcellus, Onondage County, New York. In 1820, soldier, his wife, her age not stated, a son, eighteen years old, a daughter about nine, and a son about seven years old were living with the soldier's two sons, their ages not given in Shouthington,Trumbull County, OH, no names are stated.'

Reply dated January 25, 1936, to letter to Deputy County Clerk of Trumbull County, OH, signed Marion Hickox Kelly, Deputy Conty Clerk,Warren, Trumbull County, OH: 'From our old pension files, I find the application for petition made by Henry Horton, signed Henry Haton. This application recites that he was a resident of Southington township of this county and had formerly resided in Marcellus, Onondaga County, New York. Also information as to when andwhere he served as a soldier. This application was filed October 3, 1820. If you are interested in a copy of this application, we will furnish it upon receipt of Two Dollars.' 'I am personally acquainted with Frank Haughton who gets his mail through West Farmington, OH, and no doubt is a descendant of the Henry Haughton of whom you are inquiring.'

Letter form Adjutant General's Office, Washington, D.C., and dated January 24, 1936 relative to the Revolutionary War service of Henry Horton: 'The records of this office show that one Henry Horton served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. Allyn's Company, also designated as 8th Company, 7th Company, and 6th Company, 3rd Connecticut Regiment, commanded by Colonel Samuel B. Webb. He enlisted in January 31, 1781, for three years; was transferred in May or June of 1783 to the Light Infantry Company Connecticut Regiment, commanded By Heman Swift, and his name last appears on the company muster roll for September, 1783, dateOctober___ 1783.'

The following was taken from the 'HISTORY OF SOUTHINGTON TOWNSHIP' bicentennial issue, dated 1776-1996, found in the Warren Public Library,Warren, Ohio. The first settlers arrived in June 1805 from Litchfield Connecticut. Among them were the following families prominent of Southington as a charming rural community were: Luke Viets family, James Chalker family, Ben Viets family, James Nutt family, Seth Hurd family, Henry White family, Joseph Rice, Elisha Brunson, Joshua Osborn, Charles Hays, William Ely who laid out the center as a town, Benjamin Hobart, Samuel Haughton, Aretus Haughton, Henry Haughton, Elisha Walden family,and Frisbee family. During the war of 1812, when Governor Return J Meigs called for volunteers for the Ohio Militia, most of the young men from SouthingtonTownship attempted to enlist. Records of the time show that Comfort Hurd, Joy Hurd, Smith Hurd, Lemuel Frisby, Ephriam Joy, and Samuel Houghton were among the early volunteers."

Bio. of Henry Haughton (History of Trumbull and Mahoning Counties, Ohio, Cleveland, H.Z. Williams & Bro., 1882. Vol. II, Page 523. (transcript) "Henry Haughton, of New York State, made a permanent settlement in 1818. His two sons, Samuel and Aretus, had been here and commenced improvements two years before. Henry and Lucretia Haughton were the parents of four sons, all of whom settled in Southington and reared families, excepting Aretus, who married but had no family. The sons were Samuel, Aretus, Alonzo, and Chauncy B. Alonzo is still living in Michigan. The daughters were Mary Ann (Curtis), Lois(Osborn), and Lovisa (Osborn). One other daughter remained and died in New York. All of the daughters are deadwith the exception of Mrs. Curtis, who went west and is living."^4,5
