ISSAQUAH, Wash. — Curtis E. Houghton, 78, Issaquah, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1994, at Bellevue. Mr. Houghton was born April 13, 1916, at Salina, Kan., and was a resident of Issaquah since 1981. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He and his father owned and operated Houghton Baking Company in Salina. He also worked in the lumber and hardware business in California, retiring in 1981. He was a Boy Scout master in Salina for several years. A son, James Curtis, died in 1967. Survivors include his wife, Leone M. of Issaquah; a son, Craig of Issaquah; two sisters, Ethel Heichen of Dodge City, Kan., and Doris Jean Seusey of Salina; and two grandchildren. There will be no service.

Research

Claimed he was second cousin to Katherine Hepburn, that he played with her when he was a child. Curtis served in the US Army in the Pacific in WWII. Curtis and Leone moved to Lindsborg in 1945 and owned and lived in what is now the Rosburg Mansion Bed & Breakfast. Curtis operated the Lindsborg City Bakery. In 1948 we moved back to Salina where Curtis and Emmett owned and operated the Houghton Bakery on Santa Fe Avenue until 1961. In 1961 Curtis and family moved to Downey, California.⁴
