Should John "Parker" Jenkins be John "Payne" Jenkins instead? John Payne Jenkins was bp. 8 Sept. 1782 in Martha's Vineyard, MA, born to Marshall Jenkins Sr. and Elizabeth Mayhew.

"Some Ancestors of Melissa Jenkins, 1838-1912", compiled by Ellen Naliboff for Dorothy Byergo found at www.clippingdale.org cites John Payne marrying Polly Houghton. The baptismal date cited above I got from Vital Records of Martha's Vineyard, available Googlely on-line.

John Parker Jenkins is generally considered to have been born in Stoddard, NH, child to Obadiah Jenkins and Lucy Parker. This is of the Joel Jenkins, immigrant, line.

John Payne Jenkins is a mystery. There's that baptismal record from Martha's Vineyard. If he lived to adulthood, there would appear to be a lot more economic opportunity in Hudson, NY than Hadley, NY. The Dan Jenkins cited in the 'Ancestors of Melissa Jenkins' - if it's the one I'm thinking of - is a pretty thorough researcher and would certainly pindown Gordon Jenkins father (John Parker or John Payne) before proceeding.
