BiographyMcCoy: "Widow of William Farr. She had a grown son, William Farr, by the time she married Nathaniel.
According to Vermont Historical Gazetteer, vol. V, pt. 2, p. 33, she was the widow of William Farr of Chesterfield, NH. However the marriage record found in the Haven genealogy collection of Harvard seems to early to explain the census listing for Nathaniel haven in Dummerston 1790 and Pawlet 1800. It seems more likely that Eunice bore him no children, and that he remarried. More research is needed in the Dummerston records."

BiographyThis seems to be the "Mrs. Crane" listed as the source for several items in the Haven MSS. If she was the informant, perhaps as late as 1905, her information would likely be correct, if it was transcribed acccurately into the MSS. On the other hand, "Mrs. Crane" might have been her daughter-in-law instead, with less direct knowledge of the family. Research in Jackson Co., IA might be productive.

BiographyArad was the 4th of 7 children (2nd and last son) born of Thomas Holton (1717-1800) and his wife Sarah. Arad was born in Northington Parash, Farmington, Colony of Connecticut. His siblings were: Thomas (1744-1770), Mindwell (b. 1746), Sarah (abt. 1749-1833), Hannah (1757-1842), Olive, (b. abt 1760-2), and Obedience (Boda) (bapt. 1764).

At about the age of 10 years, Arad moved with parants from Connecticut to Northfield, Franklin County, Province of Massachusetts Bay and in turn before the Revolutioary War to Dummerston, Cumberland (now Windham) County on the New Hampshire Grants (now Vermont).

In April 1777, at Dummerston, Ared was drafted for 3 months and entered the service in Captain Jonathan Knight's Company, Colonel William Williams's Regiment of Vermont Militia. The Company marched from Dummerston to Rutland, Rutland County, Vermont where they were stationed for the 3 months. At Rutland, Arid was frequently on guard and in scouting parties. He was dismissed from this service in July 1777 and returned home.

Immediately after returing home from his 1st 3 month enlistment, his father Thomas was drafted to serve 3 months in Captain Josiah Boyden's Dummerston Company, Colonel William's Regiment of Militia in the service of the United States, on an expedition to Bennington, etc. Since Thomas was nearly 60 years old, he asked Arad to take his place as a substitute. Arab entered Captain Boyden's Company on August 29, 1777. They marched from Dummerston to Bennington, on to Stillwater, New York, thence to Saratoga were they joined the Continental Army under General Horatio Gates. At Saratoga, Arab served as a guard and in making a breast work that was about 7 miles in length by felling trees and placing them about 6 feet apart and filling in between with earth. Arad served his time out and was discharged from this service at Saratoga on October 10, 1777, one week prior to British General John Burgoyne's surrender.

In December, 1782, Arad served 2 days and marched 7 miles while serving in Captain Jason Duncan's Company, Colonel John Sargeant's Militia Regiment when they marched to Brattleboro, Windham County, Vermont sundry times, by order of Colonel Sargeants to suppress the disaffected party in his said Regiment.

Arad married, about 1776, Anna Haven (1758-1787) for his 1st wife by whom he had 5 children (4 sons and 1 daughter): Reuben (1778-1865), Ira (1780-1785), Arad (1781-1785), Ariel (1783-1877), and Experience (1785-1843). Arad married, May 13, 1787, for his 2nd wife Rebecca Houghton (1766-1800) by whom he had 6 more children (5 sons and 1 daughter): Wranslow (1788-1882), Louden (1789-1870), Nobel (1792-1852), Rebecca (twin) (1795- 1843), Ira (twin) (1795-1887), and Abel (1800-1870). Arad married, March 30, 1803, for his 3rd wife Eunice Skinner (1770-1856), the widow of Josiah Spalding, by whom he had 4 additional children (2 sons, 1 daughter and 1 infant - unnamed): Joel (1804-1884), Eunice (1808-1890), Denslow (1810-1826), and an unnamed infant (1812-1812).
