"He was reared on the old homestead farm in western N.Y. His father came early to this region and built what was then called the best house in all that country, bringing lumber from Buffalo, N.Y., with teams.
He removed with his father's family when quite young to Wisconsin, attended the school at Janesville, studied law and was admitted to the Rock Co. Bar, practiced a few years at Janesville and receiving a flattering office to enter the insurance business he accepted and removed to Chircago before the fire of 1871, and has since successfully followed that business...He is at present secretary of the Fort Wayne Ins. Co., with the headquarters in Chicago, Ill.
He is a prominent member of the Oakland M.E. Church of Chicago, having been a member of the building committee that erected this church, one of the finest in Chicago. He is a member of the church official board; for 15 years the teacher of one of the largest bible classes in the city, numbering hundreds of young men and women. He belongs to the Hamilton club of Chicago, and is a prominent society man."²
