Barbara Cook: Jocktan Green Haven has a curious genealogical history. He appears to have been bifurcated with half of him born in Worcester, MA and half in North Carolina, same name, same birthdate! The NC fallacy apparently arose with his son Nelson's 1880 Census entry where he stated that he was b. in NY with his father b. in NC and his mother in Germany. I think that the long grown-up son of a distant first marriage didn't have a clue as to where his father was actually born. An informal family history of this Haven branch states that Nelson disliked his step-mother, Lucy, and left home shortly after his father's marriage to her. In any case, there was only one Jocktan Green Haven b. in 1789, and it's time that the two versions of this Haven branch were joined.²
