Biography

In notes that Richard Henry Stowe took on May 19, 1973, from Lottie (his mother's ) memories, he writes that Henry Houghton had a grain mill in Wilkinsonville and a store in Millbury. His wife, Kezia, worked in the mill. Henry bought the mill (presumably from his father's estate?] on April 5, 1894, and he and his brother-in-law Daniel E. Brown continued to operate it, with the assistance of George Pickford (Henry's father-in-law). He processed corn, wheat and oats, producing white and yellow meal. After Henry died in 1914, his wife Keziah and daughter Lottie continued to operate the mill, along with Lottie's husband, Irving, until the property was sold in 1918. Augusta (my great-Aunt Gustie) Houghton, Lottie's sister, was bookkeeper at the mill, but these records were lost when she died in Worcester. Henry moved his family from Millbury but he continued to work for Augustus Winter at the Millbury Grain Co.^6,7,8
