Milit-BegJun 24, 1676A Richard Haven of Lynn was a soldier, a sergeant, in King Philip's War, under Capt. Samuel Brocklebank , Marlborough Garrison (as given in George Madison Bodge's Soldiers in King Philip's War. It is unclear whether it was father or son, more likely the latter, given the ages (59 vs 25). Dwight Craig Haven concluded such.
This Richard Haven was paid 1 pound and 10 shillings on June 23, 1676 (after Capt. Brocklebank and most of the company fell in fighting, Apr. 21, 1676).
In "History of Amherst, NH, 1728-1882" by D. F. Secomb, 1883, there is a note that the Haven land grant claim (circa 1741) for service in this war was drawn by Joseph, the son of Richard Haven. This statement points that it was Richard Jr who was the soldier in King Philip's War. Both had sons named Joseph. It is likely that the Joseph, son of Richard Jr, claimed the land, since Joseph, son of Richard, would have been 80 years old.12,13,14,15,16
